What to See and Do

When to go to Uganda

Uganda's elevated altitude - averaging over 1 000 metres above sea level - means that a hot and humid equatorial climate is moderated somewhat. Still, it is generally a warm and wet country with December to February the hottest months.

Rain is generally a seasonal and regional affair: the south sees rain from April to May and again from October to November; the north gets rain from April to October. Expect rain at any time in western Uganda and the Lake Victoria region.

When to go to Uganda for gorilla trekking

The best times to go gorilla trekking are January and February, and June to September - these are the drier months in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and Mgahinga National Park and the most comfortable time to visit these areas.

When to go to Uganda for chimp trekking

Chimp trekking can be done at any time of year but it would be advisable to avoid the heavy rains of April and May.

When to go to Uganda for game viewing

Uganda's wildlife doesn't undergo great migrations so visit Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls national parks at any time of year though we'd recommend avoiding the heavy rains of April and May. We'd suggest the end of the dry seasons - February and March and September/early October when wildlife is concentrated around water sources.

When to go to Uganda for birdwatching

With a bird list of around 1 000 species Uganda is an almost unbeatable year round birding destination but the absolute best time would be between November and April when intra-African and Palaearctic migrants have arrived.
