Uganda Health and Safety

Health and Safety

You'll need a yellow fever certificate if you've come from an endemic area although infants under 1 year are exempt. Recommended immunisations include cholera, diphtheria, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, meningitis, polio, TB, tetanus, typhoid, yellow fever and rabies though most of these are necessary only if you plan an extended stay and in rural areas. Consult a medical practitioner for advice.

Malaria precautions are however strongly recommended in all areas.

Uganda is regarded as a fairly safe country to visit and Kampala is considered one of Africa's safest big cities though the normal common sense rules when travelling apply.

Uganda does however lie at the centre of a volatile region and has unpredictable neighbours such as the DRC and Sudan. Stay well away from the far north where Uganda borders Sudan and do not go venture north of the cities of Lira and Gulu where there are security issues. In any event, your Uganda safari will not be going anywhere near these areas and there is no reason to visit the north and north-east of Uganda.
